In 1986, the preservation agency, Historic Seattle, lobbied for the preservation of the Ward House, identified as the oldest residence remaining in the city. Instead of demolition, Historic Seattle succeeded in persuading a new owner to move it from its original site, 1427 (sometimes written 1423) Boren Street, to its new plot at 520 East Denny Way. This complexly-massed, Italianate styled house was composed of pattern book details. A rare survivor, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
