Overview

The county seat of Fresno County, CA, moved from Millerton to Fresno in 1874. In 1874-1875, this first courthouse was erected designed by Albert A. Bennett.

Building History

The California Bridge and Building Company of Oakland, CA, erected this 60 x 97-foot building at a cost of $56,370.

Building Notes

This courthouse, surrounded by an orchard of fruit trees, filled a parcel edged by K Street (renamed Van Ness Avenue), Fresno Street, M Street and Tulare Street.

Alteration

Fresno County enlarged the courthouse several times between 1875-1965.

Demolished; torn down in 1965-1966. The Fresno County Superior Court Building replaced this earlier county hub.
