The Shaw Weekend House was one of several houses Wurster designed in 1935-1936 using this type of concrete block, the others including the Mathurin Dondo House (Richmond Shore, CA, 1935) and the Frank McIntosh House, (Los Altos, CA, 1936). The area was filled with small cottages of UC Berkeley academics and weekend houses.
