This public housing project proposal gained notoriety for the way in which it obtained land from the poor, mostly Hispanic residents of the Chavez Ravine area. The plan called for the construction of two dozen 13-story buildings and more than 160 two-story townhouses designed by the modernist architect, Richard Neutra; resistance to this new scheme was strong from some of the 300 families that resided there, one of whom held out against eminent domain actions until 1959.
