Congregation B'nai Brith began as an Orthodox synagogue, but changed to a Reformed orientation in the 1890s; due to the steady migration of its members out of downtown and to the west, the congregation acquired property on Wilshire Boulevard and Hobart Avenue for the erection of a third synagogue in 1921-1922;
