Building History

The German-born architect Conradin A. Breitung designed this church for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in 1909. A notice in The Improvement Bulletin in 1909 noted: "St. Mary's Roman Catholic congregation has plans for a $40,000 church to be erected at 20th av. and Lane st. It will be Gothic style, 60x120, of brick, concrete and terra cotta, with a seating capacity of 700. There will be two spires, 150 feet high. C. Alfred Breitung, architect." (See "Churches," The Improvement Bulletin, o7/17/1909, p. 25.)
