This school served 540 mostly immigrant children in the K-5 grades. The building also functioned as a community center for families in the area, as it also contained a pre-school, medical and dental clinic, counseling rooms, parent resource center, adult classrooms, and a community garden on the roof. The San Francisco Unified School District and the Bay Area Women's and Children's Center co-sponsored a public bond measure that funded this facility.

The Tenderloin Community School complex had three stories.
