James W. (1855-1939) and Anna Clise (1866-1936) developed this 440-acre weekend retreat and model dairy farm between 1904-1920. A number of wealthy local families bought rural acreage in the early 20th century, and set up agricultural operations on them. These functioned as retreats from the city's bustle and pollution, as well as a means for the rich to reconnect with nature.

Willowmoor was designated a King County and Local Landmark in 1982. The main two-story house, a long, rambling design, had Tudor Revival Style features.
